Harvesting Flowers & Herbs

All it takes is watching Practical Magic one time!

Drying flowers and herbs are a great way to continue to enjoy your harvest all year long! I always loved growing up seeing the illustrations of “witches’ kitchens” with their bounty of herbs hanging from the ceiling. I just had to figure out the best way to dry my own bounty in the very humid summers of Cleveland, Ohio.

The first summer I attempted laying everything out on cloths on the kitchen table, and many of the herbs dried nicely, but the roses were a hit and a miss. The other problem was with the open windows many were dismantled by the breeze. Eventually I heard someone mention investing in an herb dryer and it was a total game changer! It’s important for their herbs to have little humidity to keep away mold, so I learned to dry my herbs at different temperatures.

I use my dried herbs for my Maeve’s Magic tea party blends, my catering spice blends, and I make: oils, candles, lotions, creams, simple syrups and more!

What are some of your favorite herbs to work with?
